President Dr. Arif Alvi, during his visit to the Parliament House yesterday, directed during the National Assembly session that other precautionary measures, including social distancing rules, should be ensured by following the health guidelines for the prevention of the Corona virus epidemic.

The President visited the hall of the National Assembly and reviewed the arrangements for the session of the National Assembly holding on Monday. On this occasion, he presided over a briefing on the meeting.

Deputy Speaker, National Assembly, Qasim Khan Suri and senior officials of the National Assembly briefed him.

How will the National Assembly session be held?

According to the official news agency APP, during the briefing, the President was informed that the SOPs of the National Assembly have been decided on the recommendations of the Committee on Corona Virus.

According to those SOPs, the number of MPs present during the National Assembly session will be determined at the discretion of the parliamentary leaders.

The National Assembly will hold for three hours and there will be one day break.

Guests will not be allowed to enter the Parliament House and Parliament Lodges. Only the necessary staff of Parliament will visit/come to the office. And, only one staff member will accompany the ministers.

Special passes will be issued to journalists, while those over the age of 50 will be asked to stay at home.

  • The rules of social distancing should also be maintained in the Assembly Hall.
  • Dr. Arif Alvii said that no one knows how long this epidemic will last. Therefore, this strategy can be used in future meetings as well.
  • He said that appropriate steps should be taken for the journalists too and social distance should be ensured between their seats.
  • Similarly, implementation of the code of conduct during prayers in the mosque of Parliament should be ensured and social distancing should be maintained.
